Nikola Baumann, PhD, DABCC, is Director of the Central Clinical Laboratory and Central Processing and Assistant Professor of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. Dr. Baumann received her PhD in Biochemistry from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She then completed a Clinical Chemistry Fellowship at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis and obtained board certification in clinical chemistry (ABCC). Following fellowship training, Dr. Baumann was the Director of Clinical Chemistry and Specimen Processing at the University of Illinois at Chicago before accepting her current position.
Dr. Baumann is active in the AACC at both the regional and national level. She has had the opportunity to be involved in the Society of Young Clinical Laboratorians (SYCL) leadership group and was Chair of SYCL for two years. She also serves on the Clinical Laboratory News Board of Editors, AACC’s Program Coordinating Commission and the Nominating Committee. Dr. Baumann received the SYCL Service Award in 2010 and has been awarded an AACC Presidential Citation for her efforts in sharing the field of laboratory medicine with students. At the regional level, she has served as Recording Secretary and Chair of the Chicago Section. Dr. Baumann is committed to education and teaches clinical chemistry fellows, residents and medical technology students. She also delivers the chemistry component of the Oakstone Pathology Review Course. Dr. Baumann has lectured at numerous conferences including the AACC Annual Meeting, the ASCLS Annual Meeting and the Teleconference Network of Texas.
